PCOD
PCOD is a medical condition in women, where the ovaries produce multiple immature eggs which, over time, become cysts on the ovaries.
What Causes Pcod?
The exact cause of pcod is not clear, many women with pcod ,have insulin resistance. This means the body can’t use insulin well. Insulin levels build up in the body and may cause higher androgen levels. Obesity can also increase insulin levels and make pcod symptoms worse.
PCOD is a hormonal condition that affects approximately 5-10% of women in their childbearing ages(12-45 years). While the prevalence of PCOD differs, It affects around 9% TO 22% of indian women.
In this condition, te hormones of women go out of balance which creates various symptoms, including the absence of ovulation, irregular menstrual cycle, difficulty in conceiving, weight gain, acne and hirsutism. PCOD also known as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) if left untreated, can lead to further health complications like Diabetes, obesity, Heart diseases and High cholesterol.
Symptoms Of Pcod May Include :
- MISSED PERIODS,IRREGULAR PERIODS OR VERY LIGHT PERIODS
- OVARIES THAT ARE LARGE OR HAVE MANY CYSTS
- EXCESS BODY HAIR,INCLUDING THE CHEST,STOMACH,BACK( HIRSUTISM)
- WEIGHT GAIN
- ACNE OR OILY SKIN
- MALE-PATTERN BALDNESS OR THINNING HAIR
- INFERTILITY
- DARK PATCHES ON THE BACK OF THE NECK, ARMPITS, UNDER THE BREASTS.
In Ayurveda, PCOD is caused due to an imbalance of any of the two doshas – Pitta (Fire) and kapha (Water). Aggravated Pitta causes contamination of the dhatus or tissues like blood and plasma. This causes a buildup of toxins or ama in the body.
In PCOS patients, these toxins get accumulated in the channels of the mind, leading to an imbalance of hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. This results in an imbalance of female hormones and causes the formation of ovarian cysts, which is nothing but a collection of fluids within the ovary, an ovulatory periods or periods with no ovulation, etc…

Conclusion :
There is no clear cause of PCOD. However, early detection or diagnosis of PCOD will be constructive in relieving the symptoms as well as to reduce the complications involved. PCOD treatment helps you to manage your concerns, including Acne, Infertility, Immature follicles & obesity. However, specific treatment might involve lifestyle changes or medication.
